Submitted by admin on December 30, 2009 – 4:37 pmNo Comment

Microsoft Outlook, the best email client works in collaboration with Microsoft Exchange Server. Emails, notes, contacts, etc. created in MS Outlook are stored in user’s hard disk in the form of PST files and on Exchange Server in the form of Exchange Server database (EDB) file. A replica of Exchange Server database file is also created on user’s hard disk drive, which is called Offline Storage table (OST) file. The OST file is beneficial for both Outlook users and Exchange Server administrators in following ways:

It allows Outlook users to work offline i.e. in non-Exchange environment. Emails created in non-Exchange environment gets automatically synchronized with Exchange Server when connected with it.

An OST file is beneficial for Exchange Server administrator because it works as a backup copy of user’s mailbox stored in Exchange Server database.

When Exchange Server gets crashed or Exchange Server database file becomes corrupt due to reasons like hardware failure, dirty system shut down, etc. or user’s mailbox gets accidentally deleted from Exchange Server database; then Outlook cannot access your emails, notes, contacts, to do list, and other important email items. Finding Outlook unable to display your important emails, notes, etc. can be a threatening situation for you. Your work might be getting delayed, which can be the reason of big loss leaving you in dreadful situation.

At that time the only thing that comes in your mind is how to get the emails and other related items back as soon as possible. You do not need to panic about this situation because here, we have a solution that will make you cheer up.

Solution

Solution to recover your emails is the OST file stored on your local disk drive. If you remember, we mentioned that the OST file is a backup copy of EDB file; therefore, it contains all emails, notes, etc. You can get all of your emails back from this OST file. But, you have to convert OST to PST because Outlook cannot directly access emails from OST file in non exchange build. Outlook can only access emails stored in the form of PST files; therefore, you need to convert OST to PST.

There are lots of OST to PST conversion tools available in the market, which you can use to convert OST file into PST file and get your emails back. After the software completes the conversion process, you can access the newly created PST file through Outlook. Most of the OST to PST conversion tools come with trial version so that you can evaluate them to verify their quality before purchasing. So, just download and evaluate some of the OST to PST conversion tools and once you get the best one, purchase it, and be happy with the emails recovered.
